After reading the short stories, I realised that the paradigms of trust, anxiety, death, and abandonment, were the notions that I wanted to illustrate on the cover. The cover’s idea was visualized late one night on the tube. I wanted to create an image that would appeal to a large demographic, such as the millions of people who travel on the tube every day. I realized that if a life was in danger of being compromised on the platform, help would be as close as the emergency button. However, if the emergency cable was vandalized, then the realization of helplessness would result in terror.

This was the initial sketch that I drew late one night at Tottenham Court Road Station on the Central Line platform traveling towards Lancaster Gate
